eye protection

Did you know that UVEX means UV Excluded?

Clearly UV light matters.

UV stands for ultraviolet and is a spectrum of light which is invisible to the human eye. After a day in the sun, or even in overcast weather you can blame UV light for sunburnt skin.

Equally exposed are your eyes but unlike the skin, you cannot apply sunscreen to the eyes. That is where UV protective eyewear is essential.

UV light damages living tissue. What then does this mean for our eyes? If working outdoors, even when it is cloudy, our eyes get “sunburnt” in the sense that they are at risk of long-term damage such as corneal damage, cataracts and blindness.

This is why all Uvex safety eyewear is UV400 protective, irrespective of whether clear or tinted lenses are used. Moreover the protective factor goes beyond the EN166/170 standard of 380nm.

Glare from bright sunlight or bright reflected light is a different issue. For that you need sunglare filters.

By wearing Uvex safety eyewear, you are wearing “sunscreen” for your eyes.
